Silicon is a material of choice for infrared optical elements in a variety of applications from infrared night vision to infrared thermal imaging systems. It is commonly used as a substrate material for infrared reflectors and windows in the 1.2um-8um region.  Silicon is frequently used for laser mirrors because of its high thermal conductivity. It is also ideal for weight sensitive applications due to its low density (half that of germanium or zinc selenide),

Anti-reflection Coating

Standard AR coated for 3 - 5µm or be coated to your requirements.

Reflective Coating Mirror

Silicon is the most commonly used IR mirror substrate; its advantages are low cost, good durability, and thermal stability. Protected Gold offers excellent reflectance from 700 nm through mid IR. Protected gold is not sensitive to wavelength, angle of incidence or polarization, so it is useful for a wide range of monochromatic and polychromatic applications.  We can also make Silver and Aluminum coated mirrors upon request.
