Germanium is a most commonly used infrared material for windows and lenses in night vision and thermal-imaging systems. Germanium has excellent transmission in the 2 µm - 12 µm range and can be used in both mid-wave infrared and long-wave infrared systems.  Germanium is inert, mechanically rugged, and fairly hard. It fits applications in various environments.

Anti-reflection Coating and Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) Coating

We offer Anti-reflection coating and Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating for Germanium components. 

Due to its high index of refraction, an anti-reflection coating is usually required on germanium lenses and windows for sufficient transmission in the region of interest.  Diamond Like Carbon is the most rugged and abrasion resistant anti-reflection coating designed for severe environmental conditions to withstand the action of windshield wipers, salt spray, high humidity and corrosive environments.

Anti-reflection coating options:

8 - 12µm for thermal imaging applications.                                            TAVG >98%
3 - 5µm for mid-infrared application.                                                  TAVG>90%
3 - 12µm for mid-infrared or broadband multi-spectral applications.      TAVG >92%
